Answering Some Apparent Contradictions in the Bible

Some opponents of Christianity take delight in exposing what they perceive to be "contradictions" in the Bible. There has been a strong attack on the Bible going on for centuries now. Some go as far as to say that the Bible is the most harmful book ever written. For now, let us consider some of these so-called contradictions that are raised by intelligent opponents of Christianity, and see how difficult they are to resolve. If they are not all that difficult to resolve, then why are they proposed? Could it not be that the true motivation of these attacks is something far more sinister than the apparently noble objective of debunking error and superstition?

In the Words of Jesus

(1) "If I bear witness of myself, My witness is not true." (John 5:31) (NKJV)
(2) Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I come from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going." (John 8:14) (NKJV)

Does God repent?

"God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19) (NKJV)

And it  repented  the  LORD  that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. (Gen. 6:6 KJV)
And the LORD repented [Heb: nacham] of the evil [ra] which he thought to do unto his people. (Exod. 32:14 KJV)
Who knoweth if He [God] will turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind Him? (Joel 2:14 KJV)
